Avoid a Halloween Plumbing Nightmare

Pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice lattes, and jack-o-lanterns. No matter your favorite way to consume pumpkins over the next three months, there’s no denying the American obsession with this $143 million industry.
With 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins produced annually in the United States, pumpkin carving has become a fun part of most family’s Halloween traditions.
Carving & Clean-up:
Unfortunately, what most people don’t realize is that this Halloween tradition can lead to quite the horror show if the jack-o-lantern aftermath isn’t properly disposed of. While we tend to think our garbage disposals can handle anything, once pumpkin pulp dries, it can become an almost cement-like substance which will harden in your kitchen drain line causing clogged pipes, ruined garbage disposals, and costly repairs.
Make sure to dispose of all pumpkin guts, pulp and seeds in the garbage can, and not down your sink or garbage disposal.
For easier clean-up, we recommend carving your pumpkins on top of a newspaper. Once your little goblins have finished carving their masterpieces, you can easily wrap up all the pumpkin mess and dispose of it in your garbage or compost pile.
